The Inaugural Australian Compassion Council Scholars Forum

Compassion can harness and strengthen the positive qualities of mind. The motivation of compassion is a key ingredient for personal growth and prosocial behaviour, which are at the very core of our humanity.

As cutting-edge studies start to investigate the individual, organisational and societal benefits of compassion, the research underpinning the new evidence base of compassion is gathering momentum. This growing interest in compassion research is clearly evidenced by the recent $100 million donation to the University of California US, by Denny Sanford to fund neuroscience research into the biology of empathy and compassion, with a view to improving medical training for new physicians.

To support compassion research in Australia the Australian Compassion Council* has established the ACC Scholars Network - and this inaugural ACC Scholars Forum offers the opportunity to: Map the compassion research occurring across Australia;

• Evaluate theoretical measures of compassion, and of wider research methodologies;
• Better understand how compassion research can be deployed and applied more effectively across business, health, education and other settings.

*The Australian Compassion Council is taking the lead role in bringing the work of the Charter for Compassion to Australia. The Charter for Compassion is a global network that provides an umbrella for people to engage in collaborative partnerships worldwide in the important work of developing a more compassionate world.
