This lecture focuses on a study that used a global multi-regional macro-economic model to capture the pandemic’s direct and indirect spill-over effects on society, the economy and environment. It will draw implications for international supply chains and the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UN Agenda 2030).

Dr. Malik undertakes big-data modelling to quantify sustainability impacts at local, national and global scales. She has carried out a range of sustainability supply-chain assessments of health care, biofuel production, construction materials, global energy use, global nitrogen and greenhouse gas emissions, tourism and COVID-19. Arunima’s research is interdisciplinary, and focusses on the appraisal of social, economic and environmental impacts using input-output analysis.

Dr. Gómez-Paredes is an Environmental Engineer with M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Energy Science from Kyoto University, Japan. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Earth & Ocean Sciences Division of the Nicholas School of the Environment, at Duke University, USA; and a lecturer at the Earth Sciences, Energy and Environment School of Yachay Tech University, Ecuador. His current work is focused on supply-chain analyses and the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda.
