Abstract
This talk brings together a longstanding interest in theories of innovation & technology management with new research on Chinese digital economy companies. We will discuss the extent to which existing theories explain evidence from China and to what extent the China case forces adjustment, extension or abandonment of legacy theory. The research includes econometric studies of publicly quoted companies as well as in-depth studies of over 40 firms, including Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Alibaba, Haier and other important platform, services, manufacturing and infrastructure companies.
