Remote and Rural Enterprise (RARE) application form

Thank you for taking the time to complete your RARE application.

In consideration of being accepted by the University of Sydney to participate in the Remote and Rural Enterprise (RARE) program, I hereby acknowledge and agree that:

1. I am an enrolled student at the University of Sydney whilst on exchange;
2. I will ensure that all necessary documents, including the Participant Intellectual Property and Confidential Information Agreement, are provided promptly on request to the University of Sydney so that formalities can be attended to,
3. I will attend any pre-departure information sessions as part of the exchange;
4. I will behave in an acceptable manner appropriate to fostering continued good relations between University of Sydney and the RARE project sponsor and any third parties that I am to liaise with during the exchange. I will not engage in activities which could jeopardise my safety and damage the relationship between the University of Sydney and the RARE project sponsor. I will familiarise myself with the cultural norms, customs, and standards of behaviour prior to the exchange and respond accordingly;
5. In the unlikely event there are strained relations between myself and the RARE project sponsor or any third party that I liaise with as part of the exchange, for example, breakdown of communication or conflict of personality, then in such circumstances, I will defer to the judgement of the RARE Program Manager at the University of Sydney Business School, on the best and most appropriate action to be taken for the resolution of the difficulty;
6. The University of Sydney reserves the right to change or if necessary under exceptional circumstances terminate my participation in the program, if in the University’s view continuance in the particular exchange would place in jeopardy either the University's reputation, the safety and well-being of myself or another student or continued good relations with the RARE project sponsor.
7. I accept financial responsibility for all personal expenses and debts, which may include accommodation and petrol during the exchange period (dependent on the RARE Project);
8. I understand that should I choose to withdraw from the exchange program, I will have to return any travel grant money paid to me, except in exceptional circumstances. The RARE Program Manager at the University of Sydney Business School has the final say in what circumstance may be deemed 'exceptional';
9. Purchase of the appropriate health/medical, travel and liability insurance (as applicable) for coverage of the duration of my exchange period of study. See item 10 below;
   1. Whilst I will be covered by the University’s travel insurance arrangements, I will review the Travel Insurance Schedule to ensure that it provides sufficient coverage for my travel requirements.
   2. Where the University’s travel insurance arrangements are insufficient, I have been advised to consider obtaining travel and health insurance through an appropriate insurer and accept that it is my decision as to whether or not I choose to obtain such additional protection.
   3. whilst the University has taken reasonable care in organising an engagement through the RARE program, it is my decision to participate in the engagement, including traveling on-location, being at all times aware that such participation is at my own risk.
10. I authorise the University of Sydney, in the event of an emergency to release personal contact details to my next of kin/guardian or other nominated person and/or to contact those persons on my behalf;
11. As a participant in the exchange program, I understand that upon my return to the University of Sydney, if required by the RARE program manager, I will participate in a debriefing session and provide feedback regarding the program’s coordination and research objectives, and will participate in promotional events;
12. To the extent permitted by law, I release the University of Sydney from any legal liability arising from:
    1. My activities whilst I am on exchange;
    2. My decisions in respect of insurance arrangements relating to travel, health and personal liability;
    3. The University making available to me (or approving my participation in) the exchange.
13. As a participant in the exchange program, I understand that one member of my group is required to contact the RARE Program Manager or your Unit Coordinator at the conclusion of each day. The email should detail your activities for the day, as well as your planned activities for the following day.
