Doug is Head of KPMG Australia's Asia Business Group based in Sydney and responsible for leading the firms' Chinese, Japanese, Korean, India and South East Asian business practices. He returned to Australia in 2012 as Partner-in-charge of KPMG Australia's China business practice after 10 years working and living in China and Hong Kong.

Doug is a Chartered Accountant in Australia, a member of Hong Kong CPA and speaks Mandarin Chinese. He earned his Bachelor of Business Studies (Accounting) from University of Technology Sydney and studied Mandarin Chinese at the Taiwan National Normal University in Taipei on scholarship from the Taiwan Ministry of Education in 1996-7.

Selected relevant working experience in past decade includes:

  • Doug joined KPMG China in 2001 as a Transaction Services Professional from the KPMG Australian practice where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the Financial Services Audit division between 1997-2001.
  • He was based in Beijing and HK between 2001-2006 and managed more than 70 acquisition due diligence engagements across China in most industry sectors for international clients entering China.
  • In 2006, Doug became Chief Financial Officer, Asia for a listed Australian financial services sector company for two years. As part of that role he was also Chief Investment Officer for a joint venture mezzanine capital fund with CITIC Capital and invested approximately $200 million of capital in China.
  • He rejoined KPMG China as a Partner in May 2008, specialising in private equity and managed a number of the firm's most important global PE clients, including KKR.
  • Between September 2008 and December 2011, Doug was one of several Partners tasked with the disposal of Lehman Brothers (in liquidation) principal investment assets throughout Asia which gave him a very comprehensive perspective on distressed asset valuations, sale process negotiations and legal issues in various Asian jurisdictions, including China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. The investments with a total value of $1.5 billion ranged from equity, senior and mezzanine debt, bonds and convertible bonds issued by listed and unlisted real estate companies.
  • Since returning to Australia with his family in early 2012, Doug has lead a number of major in bound Chinese investment projects. He has also lead all external marketing and media campaigns for KPMG Australia within the Australia - China corridor, including co-authoring several KPMG-Sydney University reports on Chinese investment in Australia

He is an Adjunct Professor of the University of Sydney, Business School. Also the Chairman of the Asia Society and Advisory Council member of Sydney University's China Studies Centre.

Doug was recently recognised by CPA Australia as one of Australia's 40 Young Business Leaders.
