The University of Sydney Business School has been awarded the Highest Honours designation by Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the international business honour society. This distinction—the highest level of recognition a chapter can achieve in the BGS Chapter Honour Roll program—acknowledges the School’s commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and student success.
Over the past year, the Business School’s BGS Chapter has celebrated excellence across students, staff, and the wider community through a range of awards. The Chapter Honouree Award was presented to Emma Bacon, founder and Executive Director of Sweltering Citiesk, for her contribution to climate resilience, sustainability and the creation of more equitable and liveable communities. Professor Dimitria Groutsis was the recipient of the 2026 Academic of the Year Award acknowledged the invaluable support and guidance provided by an academic staff member, highlighting the strong mentorship culture within the School.
At the BGS Recognition Ceremony in May 2026, the academic achievements of 466 Business School students were celebrated through their induction into BGS. Among them, two students were recognised with the prestigious BGS Medal for exceptional academic achievement: Jonathan Lai (Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws) and Hana Rossi (Master of Management).
As a Highest Honours chapter, the Business School has also been awarded a scholarship to support an outstanding student in furthering their academic and professional development.
Established in 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honour society for AACSB-accredited business schools, which represent the top five percent of programs worldwide. BGS members, inducted as students, go on to hold influential leadership roles across corporate, entrepreneurial, government, non-profit, and academic sectors.
